I wanted to introduce to you - the ALATO ARVET, which is currently live on Kickstarter.

I am Pierre, the founder and designer of the watch. I am here to spread awareness of the piece.
1 year ago when I lost my job as a project manager within the construction industry (I am a civil engineer) I decided to turn to my burning passion for watches - creating my very own microbrand. Here we are today, and I am so excited sharing the watch with other watch enthusiasts. This is a piece to adore!

Feel free to read about my story on the Kickstarter page:

Hey, this Kickstarter achieved its funding goal.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/al ... ts/4118203

Poll question: which color dial should I get? Black, Blue, or Red?

Nice! I'd go for Blue.

As usual, I do take a milder stance. I am not going to order any, but we have certainly seen worse. The fact that he is using the platform for advertising is understandable, as global marketing cost is really eating up a lot of profits. And if anyone here should believe there is a lot of easy money in a project like this, I am afraid they are wrong.

I found the watch interesting enough and I felt the price was right. It's inexpensive but it doesn't look cheap, at least in all the pictures and videos I've seen of the watch.

If it turns out to be not one of my favorites, I'll sell it or gift it.

Now to see how long before the watch gets shipped. I've still got the Studio Underd0g and Tesuno Shellback somewhere out there in the ether. I can see all three showing up at the same time.

I did get the e-mail from Alato requesting my dial color and Blue it is.

Naturally, any Lord may buy and collect what they like.

However, we've seen plenty of these kickstarter guys come and go, drop in for a little while to get some sales, then disappear forever--which is probably a good thing.

I honestly fail to see anything from this company that somebody couldn't get better from Seiko, Citizen or Orient, and not have to jump through hoops to get it.

Also, the entire kickstarter thing leaves me cold. I feel the same about micros who demand prepayment for something new--if you don't have the capital to produce a product, don't ask me to do it for you.

For newer members, search "Renato tourbillon" for a particularly greasy example.

Bububutt the Renault Turbo is not a watch, mais une voiture.
Image
Of course by US standards, they don't qualify as being muscle cars, probably not as car at all. We had a Renault R5 once (not Turbo), good enough to drive around. GMC Pacer looks worse.

It's the AMC Pacer, you Teutonic twit, and, if you suffered from advanced syphilis that caused your balls to melt out of your scrotum, the Pacer would still look worse than that.

I'm referring to this piece of shit:

Image

Which may or may not be the much discussed Renato tourbillon, as this may be the only picture of one ever taken.

Back in the early days of This Thing of Ours, Renato was the store brand of ShopNBC, purveyor of crap TV brands, like Invicter. Hawked by its originator, Daniel Mink, Renato wasn't exactly a microbrand (a term that didn't exist at that time), but sold a shitload of Chinese-made watches that were big, vulgar, and almost a greasy as La Mink himself. Interestingly, apart from Invicter, which I've seen in the wild more times than I care to recall, Renato was the only TV brand that I saw in real life.

Anyway, La Mink (the title I coined myself, and am inordinately proud of) decided to bring out a tourbillon to sell the simps. He made a gigantic deal out of it, and they were lined up outside his door to prepay for it. This was when Seagull or one of the other Chinese companies and successfully made a tourby movement, and were selling it to everybody whose check didn't bounce. Apparently, La Mink's checks weren't all that great, and he strung along his marks loyal customers for months, before admitting that he couldn't get the movements, and (surprisingly!) refunded the money.

A year or so later, every other TeeVee wartche brand came out with their own tourbillon, even Nvicta. But not Renato. La Mink left ShopNBC to sell direct to his marks, and quickly went out of business. Of the Renato tourbillon, nothing else is known, although Jawbone (look it up) supposedly got one.

That example is the R5 Turbo 2 - and it was cool as hell. An antidote for the terrible and anemic Le Car. The R5 Turbo 2 was a French bruiser looking for a fight with anything from Stuttgart.

Got an e-mail from the Alato founder; he’s been tweaking the bracelet and making some other changes that are mentioned in this straightforward, non-fanboi review.

https://wahawatches.com/review-alato-arvet/

In other news, the drive belt on my Vespa broke while I was racing home to beat a thunderstorm. Had to push that piglet a mile before I could safely park it and continue walking home for another 1.5 miles in the POURING RAIN. This afternoon, I walked down to the Red Dragon and pushed it back home; seemingly uphill the whole way. Thankfully, I got a helping hand from a neighbor as I got to the 8% grade going up to my house. I’ve ordered parts to repair the beast and will put it up for sale so I will have room in the garage for a new one.

This is the Vespa I want:

Dear Backers,

I’m excited to share some great news! The production of the new case sample has been completed, and I’m happy to report that it turned out beautiful. Even better than expected. All measurements are according to the technical drawings, and the slight increase in lug-to-lug width (adding 0.5mm per side) works fantastically. This will work perfect with the new articulating female endlinks.

Here’s a GIF video and picture of the fresh case sample, just hot out of production!
We are now ready to approve this sample for the bulk production of the case to begin shortly.

At this rate, NASA might actually get people back on the moon before this watch arrives at my house.

It's been a week since last update, and we've made some progress. Production of the custom rotors and parts of the clasps is now complete. The CNC-carved guilloché pattern on the rotors looks fantastic, and the lume on the edges is just stunning! This little design touch has been very well received, and I couldn’t be happier. 😊

Here are two pictures—no filters, no retouching—straight from the production line:

Next week, production will take a short pause due to the Chinese holiday. As a result, new pictures of parts fresh from production will be shared once the factory is back in operation. The good news is that we’re still on track with the previously mentioned 2-week delay, and my best estimate for shipments remains early November. I’ll provide an update as soon as the delivery dates are confirmed. Rest assured, we’re taking the time to ensure everything undergoes thorough quality checks before final assembly to guarantee the best results!

Thanks for sharing the update bbattle. I try to follow all conversations about ALATO on all different forums I'm at. Sorry for being abscent for some weeks. The production is slow yes, I think so too! Its frustrating that you have to wait so long for them to finish. But we are on schedule, as presented on Kickstarter campaign page. Yesterday I got confirmation production and QC will be done before October ends. Then we just need to pack the watches and arrange for the shipments to initiate.

Elon Musk probably circulated the moon a few times.. but hey! I still deliver faster than a Rolex AD... ;)
