Volumenzeit - Volumetric Wrist Watches

Post by Volumenzeit » December 13th 2021, 4:37pm

Hello all!

My name is Dmitriy, I am living in Munich, Germany, and since near 6 years was developing a technology to produce volumetric dials.
Finally I made it. Now it is complicated technology allowing me to make these nice handmade 3D dials accuracy suitable with wrist watches.
I would like to show you what I have and will be very interesting to hear your opinion, do you like it or not, why, what could be improved?

I have made currently a watches with following specs:
Swiss Parts Ronda Movement
316L Stainless Steel Case
5ATM Water Resistance
Sapphire Crystal Glass

4 Dial Designs, 4 Dial Colors with color shifting effects
3 Case colors
15 Strap options
Personal Engraving Feature

Pictures below are based on 2 years old prototypes when now I am waiting for a new watches with several quality improvements.
Later on will make a new ones and can include your feedbacks.

P.S. I am also having a live kickstarter campaign, if anyone will want to join us - will be great. Let me know and I can share more details with you.

Congratulations! I’m a little confused vis-a-vis the 3 D effect. Is this like those delightful posters from the early 90s that you stared at and suddenly saw a 3D image? If so, sign me up immediately. I am always keen to wear a wartch that I can stare at for minutes. If not, maybe consider this. Otherwise, I agree with Toby (I can’t believe I just said that). Maybe add one of those BBs. Those games are loved by one and all. Or perhaps consider a pachinko version for the purple dial.

Maybe do one of those little mazes with the ball bearing in it?
I actually was thinking to make a rotating turbing dial I have recently designed.
But it will be a challenging because I will need to review an entire structure of watch, make dial thinner and so on. Keeping this idea for future.

By the way, turbing dials I've made:

Thank you thank you =)
No, it has nothing to do with posters from 90s.
These dials are 3mm think and made with real 3D shape:

Could you please explain to me what is Pachinko version?

By the way, colors are not "fixed". I used color shifting paints, it has a different color at different angle, I tried to increase a depth effect by this. You can see it slightly visible on the photo with turbines. In real life it is more visible especially under natural light

Have you done anything with with a rectangular (tank) shaped case? I think these dials would work very well with one except for the turbing dial of course.

Very impressive work.
NRPI and Shitheel here.

“Begin at the beginning," the King said, very gravely, "and go on till you come to the end: then stop.”

If I am to be insulted I must first value your opinion.

Thanks a lot for positive words. This really helps for me to keep the motivation. It is very long running project/hobby and sometimes I am missing a necessary impulse.
So far I didn't try it in rectangular shape due to llimited capabilities. All of these takes a lot of time and money, cannot do everything at once.
But thanks a lot for a good idea, I didn't think about it earlier and will keep it in mind for future!

These watches aren't for me but I applaud you for thinking outside the box design wise.
Thank you for your feedback. Exactly I was trying to create something which is not presented on the market, especially a typical retail shop

Dear all,
I was not going to promote them now for sales, it is too fast with sales proposal but since this message appear... I am doing a test run on Kickstarter, with very little pre-launch and no experience therefore the results are not so great there.
If you like the idea, I will be extremely happy of your support, any sort, purchase (I have a huge discounts and free gifts now) or even a little donate. It may help to go to next level with production and improvements. If you are the best of the best, here you will find a link to use:

Let me know if you would like to support, I will offer you a super extra add-on or upgrade

I love it! With the rotating turbing and ball you could sell these like hotcakes in Vegas! Forget pachinko, it’s roulette, baby!

Great idea. I gave away super extra add-on free gifts with the last watch I sold. The kangaroo scrotum coin purse was particularly well received, if you're looking for merchandising concepts.

Idea: how about reproducing a bird’s eye view of actual downtown areas from major cities? (Or at least cities with skyscrapers.) The wartches could be named thusly, as Blaupunkt does with their radios.
I have another idea involving a favorite teevee pitchman hawking a model that sounds like his nickname here if anyone is up for guessing that one.
I think I like the cities idea though. I was thinking about a topographical rendition of outdoor spaces but it seems as if the squared off features of skyscrapers would work best.

Congratulations that you have landed 98 backers on your very first project ever. These watches are modern for young folks like the models on your project page. I am an old man and very traditionalist set in my ways for watches, You are so close to your goal, I have no doubt you will reach it without me, so for those reasons, I'm out.

I realized I need to offer the same too late, but it is fine, I will prepare an online store or another launch in half a year and will be much more prepared with these extras.

Thanks a lot for sharing with me your idea. Extremely useful.
I was thinking about series of real cities designs. First of all - it is very time consuming and expensive to make really many different designs. Start should be done with something, later we can come up to more designs, real cities is definitely in the list =)
A challenge with this idea I see is - if we do "a bird flying very high" in order to have a city shape recognizable - building will be very small and 3D will be very small, kind of losing the 3D effect in such case.

Actually I experienced something very unexpected - many people cancelled their purchases on kickstarter with a reason: project is not popular enough. That says for me that crowdfuning is not a place where there are only people purchasing products they like but also there are some people who just supporting hype projects.
Therefore I will move on with a private online store in maybe half a year or near so. Maybe at that time I will adopt or improve current designs =)

Hate to see your sales suffer.
It was a great experience from this test launch. I do count it as a huge profit, because main profit is from a not visible for all people side - knowledge, experience, network, better underdstanding of audience and much more. Such sales with literally no marketing, no sales preparation, no social media and etc is a very good result.
Therefore continue a preparation for a next step but on a whole new level.
