Kickstarter Refunds:Percentage of price kept

Kickstarter Refunds: Is it Acceptable to Keep a Percentage?

Quick question for the affordables hive mind:

I backed a KS project a while back and, after some thought and a few minor delays (totally understandable given what's happening in China right now), I decided I wanted a refund.

I sent an email to the maker with a cancellation request and recently got a response that they'd be happy to refund my money less 10%, which means I'd be out just about fifty bucks. Not a huge amount but it does give me pause.

This is the first KS I've backed so I'm not sure if this is SOP when asking for a refund prior to receiving the watch. I also want to make it clear that I'm not impugning the maker in any way. It's wholly possible this is how it usually works and I'm the clueless one in this situation. ... 35461.html

Well, if the percentage penalty was part of the original deal, is fair. Otherwise is BS.

KS is an investment, not a purchase. It is not uncommon that there is no bail out option at all, which is understandable. So be happy and eat it.
