Alcadus Opus Review

Post by koimaster » June 25th 2019, 8:32am

The Alcadus Opus eschews the recent Kickstarter trend of chunky diver’s watches by putting a Flieger dial in a 39mm case. It’s an odd choice, as pilot’s watches are normally 42mmm+, but it does kind of work. The watch brings to mind the Rolex Explorer, with a similar case design and its Oyster-style bracelet. The Opus improves upon traditional aviation watches by adding a big box sapphire crystal and the superb ETA 2892 movement.

Case

The case of the Alcadus Opus looks familiar – there are no unexpected lines, shapes or curves, and this helps to draw the eye to its dial. The brushing on the case is nicely done, and when you flip it over you can see the gorgeous custom rotor and that ETA 2892 movement. Arguably this watch looks just as good upside down!

The fuck is the matter with these kickstarter kocksuckers? It's as if they aren't even trying to make something interesting anymore. Instead of trying to design something worth anything like the money they're asking, instead they throw in a few tidbits that they learning on various watch fora that will give cheapskate WISs a hardon:

Sapphire crystal: (Voice of cheapskate WIS:) Oh, they're using a sapphire crystal!

39mm: Oh, they're finally not making stuff too big! Oh, my penis is hard over here!!

ETA 2892: Oh! They're using a nice movement that probably fell off the back of a truck since ETA doesn't normally sell to a bunch of kickstarter jerkoffs!! I'm creaming my Gloria Vanderbilts over here!!

For eight and a half bills, you could buy yourself a serious watch, either new at a B&M or used on the 'Recon. Who the fuck would spend that kind of money for a watch so stultifyingly boring, so fucking jejune, so fucking meaningless, as this piece of fucking shit.

There aren't enough Cabriole legs in the world to hammer up my fucking ass.

Well said. (I agree with everything and have nothing to add).

There seems to be a bit of the ol' "bait and switch" going on or the reviewer got his facts wrong.

The movement is now:
Movement
ETA 2824 (elaboré) with customized skeletonized rotor

They've dropped the rubber strap and the dial on the white model is no longer enamel.

On the other hand, they have a black dial model that looks better than the white one. And also a gray one that doesn't look good. The hands need to be lumed all the way to the center for better visibility, in my opinion.

The website has another backstory that would have Conjurer reaching for not just another table leg, but the whole table, sideways.

Hmmm. The one I reviewed was significantly higher specifications - with a price to match. Not saying it’s a bait and switch but I’m going to add a comment with the new specs so nobody gets hoodwinked.
