Alcadus Quantra with Hangzhou micro rotor movement

Post by bbattle » March 27th 2024, 4:31pm

I sometimes wander through Kickerstart land to see what's up. I came across this watch and it looks alright but really had me intrigued enough to clutter up the forum was the fact they are using a Chinese micro rotor movement; the Hangzhou Micro-Rotor Automatic 5015A. Alberta Time calling!

Calibre Hangzhou Micro-Rotor Automatic 5015A
Diameter 13 1/4" (30.0 mm)
Height 3.95 mm
Winding, bi-directional automatic winding, manual winding
Small seconds (non-hacking)
34 Jewels
Frequency 28,800 A/h (4 Hz)
Power reserve >= 42 hours
Accuracy +/- 7 seconds / day (regulated in-house)
Decorated with Geneva stripes and blue screws

36mm x 44mm lug to lug x 10.5mm thick
sapphire crystal
$390

I'll probably take a pass on this watch but I want to know more about this movement.

I'm no movement expert but reviews seem acceptable. I don't have one, though.

That's pretty nice. Seems really good value, too, with the boxed sapphire.
I agree with that. The movement reviews don;t seem bad.

Hey everyone, Yook Hong from ALCADUS checking in! Came across this thread and thought I'd share my thoughts.

While the stock movement from our supplier may not match the quality of Japanese or Swiss movements, the Hangzhou micro-rotor movement is truly noteworthy. With our in-house quality control and regulations, it can be considered one of the most intriguing and commendable movements out there. Plus, it comes with the added convenience of a hassle-free 4-year warranty.

I'd also like to mention that the price currently stands at around US$580, with only 50% collected during the Kickstarter campaign.

Gday Yook, welcome to Watchlords. It's a nice looking watch and I think people accept they're not getting a finer movement for US$600. Great effort IMO. If you do another one, 38 or 40mm might be better suited to more men.

Thanks for the compliment! The 2 previous models (Dromo and Opus v2) are both in 39mm.

This movement with the sub-dial position warrants a 36mm case size, the sub-dial would look out of proportion / position for anything bigger in size imho.
