Seiko’s “Baby Monster” is derived from the company’s original “Monster” line, which featured the same chunky hands and dial layout. This version—much more affordable than its predecessor—scales the water resistance down to a still-commendable 100 meters, and swaps out the screw-down crown for a standard one. The case is certainly brawny (it’s called the “Baby Monster,” after all), and made from stainless steel with a mineral crystal. Lumed hands and markers make for good legibility in dark conditions, while a day-and-date window at 3 helps you track the day in English and Spanish. Time your mission with the notched unidirectional bezel. Giving life to the timepiece is Seiko’s 4R36 24-jewel movement, which can be seen via the exhibition caseback.

With the lilt of Irish laughter
Every day and in every way
Now forever and ever after."
