Nine Months Later

Post by TemerityB » September 29th 2016, 8:13am

Image

Nine months after the death of my dog, we finally have a new pet: Meet Izzy, a girl, eight years old, my first cat since the early 1990s.

Big props to an amazing animal rescue organization, The Pets 5 Luv Foundation, in Westbury, NY. Great people in an amazing actual shelter located on the second floor of a dying strip mall with like two stores left in it.

Don't wanna bore you with details and stuff. I just missed having a critter to take care of.

She's beautiful.
Keep a brush handy. With a nice coat like that she'll demand that you brush her at her convenience.
She's a lucky girl.

She looks the part of a regal "Princess." She's already ruling her own private feline empire.

I miss not having a cat.
Sounds a bit twee but have had cats since I was a young one.
Definitely miss them not being around even if they can be a touch aloof at times

I hope she makes you happy and I'm glad you got an older one rather than a store bought kitten
Thank you for saving her.

Hope she brings much happiness to your home.

Thanks to all of you. It's been just three days - I mean, three days - and we all have found our rhythm, and it's like Izzy (short for Isabelle) has been here for months.

I'm really lucky, and at my age - so grateful.

Cats are the best. My Molly Brown is now 17, deaf, but still spry. She's still an outdoor cat, but I make sure she's in every night. She stays in the yard, now.
Izzy is a beautiful cat, I hope you have many years together.

Apparently, she's a wrestler, too. She can put me in a figure-four anytime...

Sorry to get to this party so damned late, but better late than never. Congrats on that adorable little moggie, and I hope your owners ASSociation leaves her alone...

I'd like to hear how she's working out for you. I'm looking at getting my first ever cat, and I'd like to see how things go with yours.

Again, TB, congrats; I'm very happy for you! 8-)

First off, to cod: Yeah, "no dogs allowed," but that restriction may be changing soon. In the event of that happening, I'll have a cat and dog as well, no question.

Mort: It's been amazing, and again, I'm grateful. Adopted at the age of 8, Izzy doesn't scratch either us or the furniture, plays like a kitten when she's in the mood, and is easily one of the sweetest creatures I've yet to know, flopping on her back for a rub and purring constantly like a motorboat. Cripes, she doesn't even have the slightest litter box smell, which is sort of a miracle in and of itself.

I'd post another photo but I don't wanna come off like the old ladies you see at the dog run with the cocker spaniels on their sweaters, but allow me this: I don't know what we've done to have two pets that have been so incredibly amazing one after the other, but the past 20 year period has been a revelation for me. In the past, I could take animals or leave them; now, I can't imagine life without them. Blame the missus.

TB: that's so awesome to hear, and you feel free to post as many pix of your new baby as you feel comfortable with. As a pet owner, I'd love to see 'em all! Give that beautiful furball a couple of smooches for me... 8-)
