10 best breweries, from Portland to Bend (and beyond

Post by koimaster » October 16th 2016, 7:10pm

Consensus is a funny thing. Ask most craft fans to name the best beer city in America, and they might tell you Portland, despite the fact that many -- if not most -- of Oregon's best breweries are found in Corvallis, Hood River, Bend and other burgs well outside the city limits. Ask 10 Portland beer experts for their favorite Oregon brewery, meanwhile, and you might get 10 different answers.

Breakside has good beer, but I wouldn't put them on #2 of all the good beers I had during my visits to Portland. Good burgers though.
I must admit, apart from Deschutes, I don't think I have tasted even half of the rest.
One thing holds true - equally to my trips to the Piedmonte, that have (for good) spoilt me in a way that I just can't really enjoy Italian restaurants anywhere else anymore, my stays in Oregon have made me completely revise my taste for beer. Now I wish I could come for a visit.

Breaksides flagship IPA was voted best beer in Portland last year. Their Wanderlust IPA ain't bad either. If you like that style they are very hard to beat. Boneyard RPM is also very good and in Bend as well if you are visiting Deschutes.

Just did a few weeks in the UK and visited a ton of pubs along the way. Most local pubs have a tap with a local ale and I tried quite a few of them and mostly they were excellent. I love the trend towards local ales and lagers.
