Crazy world of wine

Post by bbattle » March 2nd 2025, 4:05pm

France is spending €200M to destroy surplus wine to prop up wine prices. It seems people are drinking less wine in Europe while production is going up. Good time to stock up on Bordeaux?

Meanwhile, the Welsh vineyards are fleecing their vines to improve yields and reduce pests.

They said the sheep farmers appreciate a new market for their fleeces as they are practically worthless, too much wool already on the market. One vineyard pays just £1 per fleece and it costs the sheep farmer £1.50 to shear the sheep.

I have seen data which indicates the same oversupply/waning demand issues in the US whiskey industry.

There’s been an explosion of ‘micro distilleries’ in the past 10-20 years or so. I remember when Tennessee had only two distilleries; Jack Daniels and George Dickel. Now, there are 94 of them. Legal ones, that is. That’s ridiculous and means it’s far worse in Kentucky.

I think it's more due to the millennials and Zers being too much of a bunch of motherfucking pussies to drink real liquor.

This is just but one of the millennials and Z-bangers being far too pussified. For instance, one of my older customers came into the store today in his Saleen Mustang. Three quarters of the younger kids today don't even want to drive a car; if they saw the above car available for sale, the absolute best of them would piss and moan and complain how such a vehicle would kill polar bears and shit, instead of wanting one so bad it would give them a blued-steel erection and pick up some hot broads, and want to buy an EV.

When my customer came into the store, I complimented him on a nice piece of De-Troit rolling iron. I didn't piss and moan about the polar bears.

Saleen Mustang, that's a thing that I and my homeboy codguy could appreciate. I met Steve Saleen at Air Venture nearly twenty years ago. Gen whatever knuckleheads aside, I think micro distilleries are in the same spot the microbrewers were in 10 years ago or so. Many wont make it, the long aging time for whiskey and the fight for shelf space and distribution will spell the demise for many of them. Such is the same for wartch microbrands as well. Merica.

Pinot Noir and American Whiskey.
Drop'em in a paper bag and drink'em right outta the bottle.

If the words Moët & Chandon or Tattinger don’t appear on the bottle then you are drinking garbage.
OMG Sr Nuvo I hope this post was in jest as I'm sure you know and love your wines!
