Just looked it up, guess I’ll have to read it. If the main character was already an officer before the war, the VIS would have been his standard issue sidearm. There was quite a number of these guns in the hands of the Underground - some from the pre-war production, some taken in combat from the Germans, who kept producing the VIS.
