A lack of understanding of ballistics

How is this kind of stupidity possible?

In NJ one needs to take an 8 hour course and test just to operate a 1hp motor on a canoe. A federally mandated safety course with graphic video of what bullets can do is in order.

Bullet physics aren't grasped by the majority of gun owners.
Cases in point:
A women traveling at a fairly high rate of speed in her car. She had a horrendous bloody wreck. Turns out she had the driver side window down less than .5 inch and a 22 cal bullet fired from a mile (or .5 I forget) away went through the crack and caught her in the grape.

I fired a 1911 at a target 40 feet away. The slug came absolutly straight back up my sight line and hit me. The bullet looked like a shiny dot and went to a rose gold garbage can lid just before it hit. The slug bounced off my bony eyebrow and hit my partner in the lip and teeth. He was standing DIRECTLY BEHIND me looking over my shoulder me for safety. :-o ....and I'm ehhhhh trained.

Dad talked about the realization of ricochets when firing a .30 cal with tracers while in the Army.

It won't be long before CDC is tracking "Youtube Darwinism" as a cause of death.

Getting intentionally shot in an attempt to get one's youtube numbers into the rare air where Archie Luxury lives is stupid enough. Doing so with a 50AE just puts the cherry on top.

It's also more expensive than alternative youtube-darwin suicides.

Pity about the girl - accidentally kills somebody she loves and gets a manslaughter charge in the bargain. What a shitty way to start a long weekend. Probably has a wrenched wrist just to add to the misery.

The scientist in me wonders why you wouldn't test the process before putting your body on the line. That is some straight-up raw stupidity.

Ruiz and Perez already had one child together, with a second on the way. Ruiz’s aunt stated, “He wanted to have so many babies. I remember him telling me.”
Thank god only half that DNA can be passed on now

Perez, 20, is currently under arrest on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm. Her first court appearance was today.
She is currently seven months pregnant with Ruiz’s second child, a boy, who will be named Pedro, after his father.

Oh boy, in about 20 years we can read about a I tried to top my dad video
In memory of TB/Phfluff, since he isn’t here to continue to give his praise, I will share it for him.

Not true. At least legally speaking...

Can't anyone have an air rifle, even if powerful enough to kill? Or a shotgun?
Not sure but I thought it was true, as I saw it on a vintage airgun site.

Depends on state and local laws. In Virginia, be 18 and pass a background check (usually a few minutes) to buy a gun. I think a pistol is 21.
I don't know about BB guns and such. Probably 16 or 18, but no checks. They're just on a shelf, put it in your cart along with the whiskey and porn, and head for the cashier.

What about hunting air rifles? Are they lumped in with "BB guns", even though they are easily capable of killing a man?
Some of the pre-charged modern air rifles are extremely powerful.

In NJ any air rifle or BB gun is considered a firearm (just like a 30-06 rifle) and a Firearms ID card is required for the purchase.

A shotgun requires the same background check as any firearm unless it's classified as an antique by BATFE. This includes cap, flint and matchlocks manufactured prior to 1898 or reproductions thereof incapable of firing standard ammunition.

A pre-charged pneumatic such as a Sam Yang .45 or .50 is exempt from BATF(irearms)E regulations as it's not considered a firearm. However they may be restricted at the state or local level. At 230 Foot-pounds muzzle energy they can be lethal but they're slow to charge, slow to reload, short of range and generally outperformed by a compact compound bow. In fact they are probably at their most lethal when firing something resembling a crossbow bolt. They are recharged from the scuba tank you're toting around making the package heavy and bulky.

We haven't come a long way since the Austrian Girardoni air rifle carried on the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Non-federal restrictions are summarized here.

I'm not sure but I'd guess that New York's restrictions are similar to London's except lock back folding knives are permitted if they're small enough. One supposes they had suffered through some mass slingshot shootings at one time or another.

New York

Wrist-braced slingshots
New York City & it's 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens & Staten Island
(incl. ZIP Codes 100xx-104xx, 111xx, 112xx-114xx & 116xx):
Airguns
Airsoft guns
BB guns
Blank guns
Blank gun ammo
Blowguns
Blowgun bolts & darts
Crossbows
Lasers
Locking folding knives with blades longer than 4 inches
Longbows

My guess is that the airsoft product is prohibited due to possible confusion with an actual firearm but my record of reading the minds of the NY legislature isn't good.

"My guess is that the airsoft product is prohibited due to possible confusion with an actual firearm but my record of reading the minds of the NY legislature isn't good."
Reading what the NYS Legislature is thinking at any time isn't real assuring. I have heard rumors that part of the foolish NYS (un)SAFE Act "may" be modified (outside of NYC of course). This "Act" was passed so quickly, without any public input by the way, that Law Enforcement found themselves in violation of the Act immediately. Over the limit on magazine capacity. So the dim-witted legislators had to back step to exempt LEO.
They are probably looking closely into rescinding the "bayonet lug" restriction.
I still am not 100% positive if a 7-round or a 10-round magazine is "legal". Depends who you ask. And still not sure IF 10 rounds can legally be put into a 10-round magazine or if 7 is the max in a 10-round mag.
I did however "permanently" modify my AR-15 20-round mags as well as my son's Ruger Mini-14 mags to only hold 7-rounds.
Also had to change the stock on my "deadly assault" Ruger 10/22 so it complied with the Act. No thumbhole stocks allowed on semis.
So my beautiful Fajen thumbhole stock was replaced with a custom target stock --- and viola ---- compliance.
My son did same thing with his Mini ---- end result ---- SAME exact gun, SAME exact caliber, SAME exact magazine.

I purchased a Benjamin Marauder PCP rifle in 22cal from Pyramydair.

(borrowed pic)

Taught two nieces and a now Eagle-Scout gun safety & how to shoot. No restrictions here, mail ordered and on the front porch afew days later.

PCP rifles are a great gateway to centerfire and they do a number on Raccoons & other pests........................ so I'm told.
