What a cool collaboration - It's mind boggling that Voutilainen was able to disassemble, refurbish, hand decorate, clean, and lubricate these 70 year old movements, each of which set a record for accuracy, without changing their original calibration. Voutilainen will undoubtedly be recorded in horological history among the venerated ranks of Daniels, Smith, Dufour and sew Fourth.

A good read on the project at ABTW:

The more I see them, the more I want one...

These are incredible pieces of watchmaking history for the heritage of the movements as a marker of the pursuit of isochronism that defined the highest watchmaking traditions of the 50's and 60's and for the work of a contemporary gatekeeper of those practices.

Voutilainen is one of the few of a dying breed of masters of the 32 skills required to 'create' a watch entirely by hand as last codified by the George Daniels Method. There may be only one other watchmaker who could have accomplished the work on the movements (without altering the calibration), dials, and cases, but he has only completed 100 watches over the course of his entire career likely requiring the good Dr. Smith to have had to deliver the finished watches to the forwarding addresses of the buyers on Mars.

...but for the 134 grand.

I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific. —Lily Tomlin

I don’t think I’ll be able to get this watch out of my mind. I know I’ll never own it, but it is my dream watch…an unattainable grail. The salmon dial is stunning. This is THE watch in my mind. This may be the only time in my life that I regret not being filthy rich.

Beautiful watch but not really sure about the dial color. The movement is superb but for myself I think a light orange as below

Or this green would be my preference

With that said, no way I would refuse the watch
