Richard Petty’s 1971 Plymouth Road Runner
Richard Petty is an American racing legend with the most NASCAR series wins, a shocking 200, over a career that lasted 34 years. Now, one of The King’s iconic race cars is up for auction, the very 1971 Plymouth Road Runner that he took to the #1 spot at the NASCAR Grand National Championship race. It just so happens to be one of his favorites, too. Painted in Petty’s famous blue hue inside and out, the Road Runner houses a rebuilt 426 CI Hemi V8 engine and a four-speed manual transmission. The seat is a special Petty custom houndstooth fabric, which makes the car even more special. It also happens to be only one of two factory-sponsored cars, and it’s the only one that finished the 1971 racing season. Expect the car to hit the gavel at over half-a-million dollars when all is said and done. Not bad for a museum-worthy race car.
