My new ride

Post by gerdson » January 31st 2025, 10:52pm

In the last year of our stay in Denmark, back in 1983, my father bought a SAAB 900 4-door Sedan, in a rather peculiar light brown colour. I am most certain it was not because of this colour, but despite it, as I do assume the retailer offered a very high discount just to be able to get rid of it. We kids called it baby poo brown. But it was otherwise a very good car, and my father was proud and happy. And it certainly constituted a family tradition, as he bought another one, a 3-door one in white, which I was given in 1988 after graduation, when joining the German Airforce. I am not gonna list them all, but I quickly fell for SAAB's turbo engines, and the last of the old 900 models I drove was a nice 1990 convertible with a 160hp 16V Turbo, which I owned until 2005. Later a 5-door 9-5 marked the end of that story, it was a company car paid for by my employer, and that was not too long before General Motors decided to close SAAB down.
A good week ago, I bought this one

It is a 1998 SAAB 9000 Turbo. I need to shine it up a bit, these nice "Diamond Spoke" wheels shown are hiding the horrible steel rims, which the previous owner bought for the winter tires, and which are currently mounted.
Ardnut since 1989

In twenty years or so, the German language will be one, massively long compound word.
