Decent Chrono for US$50?

Post by jason_recliner » September 4th 2023, 6:48pm

This one looks alright. Screw-down caseback, cool handset, big proprietary crown, inoffensive styling, date, 100m WR, and the stitched strap looks good, has a decent buckle, and is likely to be comfortable:

Impressive, at least on-screen.

I feel there was a zodiac model that like that at one point 15 years ago.
15 years ago $50 was almost half a BASM.
Quite so. Back in 2010 or so, you could pick up a Monster for a buck and a half, brand new. When you got tired of it, you could sell it for $125. Those things must have been passed around like Patty Hearst in the SLA.

I actually have that one, purchased a few years ago...pretty good value especially for the price
How has it held up? Is the bezel scratched to buggery? Got any real world pics?

Right! Pictures, or it didn't happen.

Held up very well but I'm easy on my stuff, especially the bezel. I'll try to get you some pictures later on. I've had good luck with Fossil

Here you go... If I had a newspaper, I would have held that up to to show the date, like the old hostage photos used to do

I swapped out the original strap. Nothing wrong with it it's nice and thick it was just a bit too long for my wrist

That's a good looking watch, almost hard to believe it was $50. Deal's over, now it's $64, like I'm some titan of industry or something. I was very tempted but already got something on the way, and I've got an old Elgin quartz chrono that was a WL charity purchase that I'm going to put the money into getting running again instead (probably just needs a battery). I might see if my watchmaker will do a hydro conversion on it.

Thanks for posting - great score IMO
