Hawaiian Surf watch arrives

Post by koimaster » August 26th 2021, 11:50am

A while back someone posted elsewhere that I bash this brand but never owned one so I had no clue. They thought the watch was the “best”. So I purchased a used one at fleabay and will review it. Then it will be donated to the next auction whenever that will be.

They played here at Summerfest back in August of 1985 when summerfest was downtown and things were simpler.

I saw them 1991 or so at the Oregon State Fair

So, the watch arrives and you are speechless?

Details, man! We need details.

I think I'll keep my Seiko PADI and skip this one.
there is a long thread about the watch below. Rather than have someone say we dissed the watch without ever seeing one up close and personal, now I will see this POS well made watch and give it an honest watchlord review.

43mm 316l brushed or IP stainless steel case
Unidirectional rotating timing bezel
Screw down locking crown
Screw case back
Superior lume on hands and dial numbers
Multi-jewel Japanese quartz movement
K1 hardened mineral crystal
NBR rubber strap with patterned back
200m water resistant *))(

My $46.00 ebay purchase that arrived with a dead battery. Luckily the previous owner included a new one.

Lume after a few minutes in the sun

Caseback with claimed 200 meter water resistance. Might try to put it a fishing line next time I go fishing and see if it survives 100 feet.

Really cheap rubber strap on this watch. I would replace it with a $10 strap which IMHO would be a major improvement.

On the wrist. Bezel was mis-aligned, watch is very heavy, just felt too heavy for a dive watch and bezel was also hard to rotate.

Szanto vintage diver. Look familiar to you. The so called hawaiian lifeguard watch is for intents and purposes the same watch.

I just noticed that the squat to poop logo lifeguard appears to be covered in some sort of dermatological grossness. WTF?

Is as much of that crap under the crystal as it appears? The dial looks like it needs a good vacuuming. How old did your seller say the wartch was?

Looks like they hold up even worse than I thought they would.

I only purchased the watch to take photos and give my abbreviated take on it. As I stated in my first post, it will be donated to the next auction.

If it were smaller, I’d get one to use for an oil filled watch. I’m looking for a cheap small quartz to play with a oil filled mod on.

I was going to donate my Citizen solar powered watch to the cause but my wife has it now.

I have the full set of The Simpsons watches that Burger King sold about twenty years ago; three of them still NIB. Would those be suitable for a donation or are they too valuable? I used to wear the one that when you pushed a button you heard Bart say "Eat my shorts, man!"

Send it to Carl for a proper dive review.
That would be fine
