Dr. Anthony Fauci & Timex

Post by koimaster » April 19th 2020, 7:24pm

Dr. Anthony Fauci holds a rareified and ephemeral position in the United States right now (March 24, 2020), as the nation’s leading authority in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. At the time of writing, we are all in some version of shelter-in-place, hoping social isolation can starve the virus. Fauci, an immunologist who serves as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and was at the forefront of the fights against HIV/AIDS for (which he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom), SARS, MERS, Ebola, and now the coronavirus.

It also looks like he’s been a Timex guy for several decades now. It makes sense that he’d stick with an American brand that makes some of the most durable and reliable digital watches around. I’ve also noticed that he checks the time very, very frequently. In fact, with the rest of us in lockdown, he may be one of the few people in the country who needs to get somewhere on time so urgently you’d think the fate of the world depends on it (because it might).

A man who is smarter than most, has been on the cutting edge of infectious disease research for decades.

Can’t go wrong with Timex except for that arm hair eating beast of a bracelet on the Q.

It takes a real man to withstand a little hairpulling in return for wearing a nice watch. Too bad you weren't wearing watches in the 60's when those scissor style expandable bracelets were the bees knees.

“Twist o’ Flex,” the first man’s depilatory device. Thanks, Speidel. Remember my Dad’s wrist being bare from those damned things.

Twist o' flex was the answer to the scissor style bracelets. It was a breath of fresh air.

A thing of beauty.

I remember buying my girlfriend one of those epilady devices back in the day. Didn't hurt me when I used it on my arm but she said it made her cry to use it anywhere. Epilady quickly went out of business.

Now men are shaving with these five blade monstrosities that cost a fortune. Bah! give me my Merkur safety razor and Feather blades. Better shave at a far lower cost.

Do they even make the Twist-o-flex any more? Man, those were hot decades ago. Like polyester leisure suits. Stains from the buffet at the Sizzler came right out in the wash.

My first watch was a pin-lever Timex given to me by my grandfather when I was five and had just recently learned to tell time. It had a twist-o-flex and that made it the coolest thing ever... because, you know, it could twist without breaking. It could also flex. But by the time I actually had arm hair I had already moved on to leather bands...
