[WTS][USA] Vintage 1966 Rolex Daytona Ref. 6239 Railroad Tool Watch
For Sale: Iconic “One Owner” 1966 Rolex Daytona Ref. 6239 – A True Collector’s Piece!
Price: $49,999
This is a single family owned 1966 Rolex Daytona 6239, one of the most coveted models in the Rolex vintage lineup. December 2024 appraisal for $70,000 (included with sale). This watch was purchased by the original owner for monitoring train speeds during railroad operations in the 60’s-80’s; a true historic “tool watch”.
Key Features:
- Model: Rolex Daytona Ref. 6239
- Year: 1966 (Circa)
- Case Size: 37mm
- Movement: Manual wind, Caliber 722, featuring the iconic Valjoux 72 chronograph movement
- Condition: See high resolution photos for exact condition. The chronograph runs smoothly and resets to zero.
- Dial: “Big Daytona” reverse panda dial in excellent vintage condition
- Bezel: Stainless steel tachymeter scale bezel.
- Bracelet: Original Rolex USA oval link jubilee as well as a brand new aftermarket premium leather band.
- Box & Papers: Circa 90’s Rolex service box with paperwork and brochures as shown. Includes a Dec 2024 insurance appraisal indicating a replacement value of $70,000.
- Service History: The inner caseback shows several distinct service marks from the past. The last known service was by Rolex USA in 1997. The watch was inspected and regulated prior to this sale, and is timing +2 seconds per day with good amplitude (see timegrapher photo). The plexi crystal was replaced with a “new old stock” authentic Rolex part, and the original crystal is included for the sake of history.
- This watch has been family owned since the original purchase. It was passed from grandfather to son to grandson; being mainly kept in a safe for the last 3 decades. It was bought to use the tachymeter function to monitor train speeds during railroad operations in the 60’s-80’s; a true “tool watch”.
- The Rolex Daytona 6239 was the first model in the Daytona line to feature the now-iconic tachymeter scale on the bezel, a hallmark of the collection.
- Same reference as the “Paul Newman” due to its association with the legendary actor and racer, this model is steeped in racing history and pop culture.
- With its beautiful vintage patina, this timepiece offers a perfect blend of historical significance and unmatched craftsmanship.
- Collectors who want to know the unique ownership history of their piece
- Fans of iconic Rolex models
- Those seeking a high-value investment piece
