Hamilton PSR Returns!

Post by bbattle » January 7th 2022, 7:32am

"The Hamilton PSR is a sweet reissue of the original LED Pulsar digital watch, and now the brand has created one with a green readout to coincide with the release of Matrix Resurrections, the fourth installment of the Matrix movie franchise. It also happens to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original watch, the timing is perfect. The black PVD-coated steel case measures 40.8 x 34.7mm, just like the original Pulsar, but now there’s sapphire glass, and the display is a hybrid of LCD and OLED. You can read the numerals in daylight and then press the button on the side of the case for bright green OLED numerals. The slick caseback has the digital rain graphic, and there’s also a matching black steel bracelet. Only 1,999 pieces will be made, the year the first Matrix movie bowed."

OMEGA made the original moon and James Bond watches. Not my jam. Contrarian that I am, I was captivated by Bulova’s “other” Moon Watch, the Lunar Pilot. It stands to reason that I find the “other” Bond Watch appealing. Enter the Hamilton PSR, a remake of the Pulsar P2 digital wonder-watch of 1972

The original that you could purchased used for less than $100 a few months ago is now far more expensive.

Wow. That is extremely cool. The first Hamilton I've really desired. They've invested too much to only make 2000 pieces. I'll wait for the 'standard' edition - hopefully it's still black.

Mr. Cod, absolutely. DLC and solar would make this one of the most desirable digital watches, up there with your Ti Square.

What’s all this bullshit about a “re”-issue?

Seasoned Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts [now paging Dr. Smells] may understand how I feel the shape of the case mimics the soft curve of the dash on a 116-chassis S-Klasse (1972 - 1980). Which, makes sense, since they both hit the market hard around 1974….

Could be coincidence, could be an era design trend…. But I see a Mercedes dash every time I put it on. (Most likely because that’s the dash I saw every time I stepped into my first car - one of 1861 units imported to the US with a 6.9 litre engine and trick hydropnuematic & air suspension.).

With a genuine 150mph top end that thirsty bitch simply dominated everything else with wheels.

When I put on my Hamilton Pulsar P2 it always causes a very strong flashback to when I shook down and rocketed by a 383ci-powered 240Z on my way out to Willow Springs Raceway - his license plate: “ILRACEU”. When we arrived at the track we had a great chat - super cool dude.

In my mind, that particular watch and that specific car are irreversibly linked…
