the Tikker “death watch”.

Post by koimaster » July 21st 2020, 10:43pm

At 3am, the world can seem like a bleak place. Staring at the bedroom ceiling unable to sleep, I find myself wrestling with a familiar stampede of anxieties. All the usual suspects are present and correct: the financial headaches, the career regrets, the mounting horror that my “double crown” is, in fact, a nascent bald spot. It seems as good a time as any to properly confront my morality by agreeing to review the Tikker “death watch”.

Because while these moments of nocturnal angst have a tendency to flare up from time to time, tthey’ve become way more frequent of late. The second round of lockdown in Victoria – where we are back in Stage 3 and largely housebound for another six weeks – has proved a vicious kick in the metaphysical knackers. COVID’s capacity for screwing up everything that I’d looked forward to this year has plunged me deep into the doldrums. Increasingly, I catch myself feeling disappointed about the past and pessimistic about what the future holds.

All the millennials will have one of these except it'll be an app on their cellphone. The app will wake you up at random times to tell you how little time you have left. The snowflakes will get all sad and melancholy.

They will wallow in self pity while they scarf down another Shaqaroni pizza.

They will inform the world through social media how they feel about this and anxiously wait for affirmation.

What an utterly useless contraption.

I think the past couple of decades have been about perverting anything that can be messed with. "Death watch."

We've also had movies about Hansel & Gretel and Snow White full of gore, they literally KILLED Archie, and they turned Ren & Stimpy gay.

We can't have little, nice things - someone's gonna come along and make everything dark and stupid.

...they literally KILLED Archie...
When the fuck did this happen? Was it Jughead that whacked him? Jughead was never the same after coming back from Desert Storm. He must have seen some bad shit in the sandbox, man.
This is what happened: Some neck-bearded pea-brain at the comic book company put out a "serious" version of the comic called Life With Archie. From Wikipedia: "On April 9, 2014, Archie Comics announced that Archie Andrews would die in the July 2014 issue as he tries to save one of his friends in what would be the second-to-last issue of Life with Archie. Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater verified that in both parallel futures covered by the Life with Archie series, Archie's final fate is the same. On July 14, 2014, it was revealed that Archie would be killed saving character Kevin Keller from an assassination attempt from a stalker's bullet.

That's not Archie. Archie comics were meant to be found in your big sister's bedroom, and sure enough, you kinda liked 'em, too. They were meant to be filled with short funny stores about Archie and Coach Cleats, egotistical Reggie, Jughead's love of hamburgers, big, dumb Moose, and loads of corny gags and jokes. Betty and Veronica served as both romatic foils for Reggie and Archie, but to also give 10 to 12 year old boys certain feelings they never noticed before. So, instead of all this, they make Archie - fucking Archie, with those goofy lines on the back of his head - into a serious tragic hero. They killed him. Now, granted, there are still Archie mags today, somehow, yet they still killed the guy.

No wonder today's teens either go around cutting themselves or are busy running to nearby states for "group meetings."

I know, T. I was just breaking balls a little bit.

Interestingly, if Jughead was around in the 1950s, he probably would have been naming names in front of HUAC. Just my two cents, but I never trusted the cocksucker.

My point from the get-go is that we can't have nice litle stuff in entertainment - comics characters, storybook fables, cartoons - that can't be twisted and messed up by some neckbeard jagoff who thinks he's doing the world a favor by "modernizing" traditional stuff. Which usually means gory violence, lots of sex, or bad language.

Hey, I'm not a prude - you know me, fuck, no! - but can't we leave the fun stuff intended for kids alone? At least?

Anyone else here grew up with Aesop's fables? They weren't exactly kid friendly.
