Few things have gone from being desirable to dismissed as quickly as the LED watch. In this video there's a brief recap of LED watch history as well as a demo of a Pulsar P3.

The first watch I ever had was an LED. I had to push a button to see the time. I remember how inconvenient that was, and how that was probably why they died out.

I think about that whenever someone talks about checking the time on their phone, which requires fishing it out of a pocket and pushing a button.

I had one- you're right, it was a giant pain in the ass.

I remember when Pulsar came out with the version that lit up the display with a flick of the wrist. They ran some pretty funny ads to promote them but they never worked; you either had to shake the shit out of them to get them to light up, or they came on with even the slightest twitch of the skin on your wrist. Sometimes extinction is a good thing.

I had analog watches (probably Timexes) before digital watches appeared. I thought digitals were the nutz! The first one I could afford was a Texas Instrument watch. I loved it because it was so different. I did go through a 6 month ,rigourous training period to build up my index finger in anticipation of the obviously difficult and time consuming act of pushing a button though. Be prepared,I was taught.

Ditto. I prepared with plenty of one-handed lap pull-ups.
I find tv watches to be like the guys who raise their truck you need a fricken ladder to get in. It’s a attempt to look cool... that’s all.

I have a digi-watch that costs more than a basic windy-up Hamilton on sale. The idea that it’ll cost more than a Rolex - which is either double its official retail price, or its retail price plus relentless, repetitive fellatio on “the AD” - is fanciful however.
