Factory Breitling services

Complete factory spa treatment for my Blackbird is ± $1000.

-------------> Would be terrific to have it serviced locally (Seattle/Portland area) by a reputable watchmaker with access to consumable parts (seals, hands, screws, etc).

Thanks Randy, I've just reached out to them via email to see what they can/will do on the B.

Koi, have you used your linked company for service?

If I need to send the watch out, I might as well send it to the Breitling Service center.
Was hoping to find someone more local that I could hand deliver and since the Watchsmith of the Stars in Clackamas won't do chronos.......................

I sent my late father’s jlc into them last year. Gone for three months but came back as new and now back in the deposit box.

I talked to Tom @ Crown Jeweler (Watchmaker of the Stars) this morning, he also recommended I contact Alex at Watchworks. Still waiting for a reply back.


For those interested, Tom (WotS) does not work on co-axial Omegas either so I'm SOL on that front too.

A follow up........
Alex @ Watchworks https://watchworkspdx.com/ no longer services Breitlings and stated my best course would be the factory service center direct.

Randy- Jan Nesbit of Nesbit Watch Service https://www.nesbitswatchservice.com/index.html stated they also do not work on Breitlings but they will service co-axil watches.

Since Nesbit service price is the same as the Omega service center (also in Seattle), I need to deliver my Planet Ocean to the Swatch facility.

Interestingly, I sent my Longines Hydroconquest chrono back to Joma's service center due to the chrono-seconds hand not returning correctly to reset (it resets to one second fast.)

The movement is a heavily modified Valjoux 7753 with the cam system replaced with a column wheel. This is the fifth watch I've owned with a Valjoux movement, and three of them have had to go in for service very soon after purchase.

The other two were a Philip 7750, again with the reset issue, and a d.freemont, with a problem with the keyless works. Luckily, all were resolved at no cost to me.

This is most excellent news. A little known fact about Costco. . . If you purchase a luxury watch from them they warranty it. I do not know anyone who has used it, but I love Costco.

No problems with either of these two watches, I just know they are due for a lube, oil & filter.

Apparently the co-axials are time consuming to tear apart & put back together........ and Breitling controls their spare parts inventory tight so most watchmakers simply pass on them as well.

The Omega at their service center quoted a price of $600 for the whole spa treatment.

I'd argue service intervals on modern watches, with modern lubrication, are not needed at the "scheduled" suggested times unless the watch is worn daily.

What does break down is rubber case seals (case back and crown). This increases the probability of water ingress which may damage mechanical components.

Yup. Unless the watch starts departing for what one considers appropriate accuracy, don't worry about it.

That's a shit ton of money. A few years ago, I paid £500 to Breitling to service and refurb an old Chronomat, including its bracelet (which was still stretch-free). That was a £2k watch so it's still 25% of the price of the watch, but isn't that normal?

At the same time, a Rolex service was £500 but that was when the watches also cost £2k, and didn't include bracelet refurb, which was always billed separately because parts often needed replacing. Nowadays a full RSC service/refurb here is over £1k but the watches cost £6k because "investments", so...

The Breitling is 10 years old, never been serviced and still runs accurately .
Same goes for the Omega at 12 years of age.

Anecdotally, when I purchased my Rolex Submariner I spoke with the vendor's watchmaker regarding servicing my Daytona. It had been about 5 years since it's major repair for a broken mainspring. He said if the watch was functioning properly and keeping time, wait till it wasn't. That was about 4 years ago.

My two cents:

My SuperOcean was bought in 1999 and still running fine. Not worn often but wound about once a month. Many of my watches (Oris, Junkers, Ocean 7 and even a Russian Aviator) are over 10 years old and none have ever been serviced and still running well.

Before Id spend $1,000 on a $3,000 watch Id buy a new one and maybe sell the old. Obviously not if it had any sentimental value.

I had an old Omega I had serviced in the late 90s. $50 but I dont remember what all was done. Not a complete teardown Im sure.

I'm a big believer of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'm also a big believer of manufacturer service, I think paying the extra few hundred dollars is worth piece of mind and adds value to the watch when I try to sell it, which inevitably happens. Anyway, I bet that Omega will run another 5 years without an issue and the probably the B'ling too. I thought the movement on the B'ling was a module from DD which are very hard to service.

Yep, Breitling's caliber 44 is based on the ETA 2892 w/ DD module.

This too makes sense and I agree that this watch is definitely worth the $1K investment. It's getting rarer and in my opinion it's one of the best designs B'ling has done.
