Very nice and finally a brushed case that fits this 'adventure' watch better than the high polish.
Still polished case and bezel sides but I reckon it really works well:

Not sure if you've handled one but it's such a rich looking watch in the metal.

Well, goddamn it. It's been a long time since Seiko's given me a goddamn boner.
Yeah, I feel like Seiko has been on an upward trajectory again for a year or so.

Nice looking indeed — although — Seiko still can't line up a bezel unless of course the folks at Mono's live pics shoot fucked it up. I reckon it's even money for either instance.

Indeed, which rotates via gears — i don't think it's fluid, it would take a lot of fine sprockets to even com close. I suppose the knuckleheads at Mono are fully capable of not aligning the bezel in an entire series of photos. Perhaps a letter to the editor would clear the matter up. I'll keep y'all posted.

Have not heard back from Monochrome regarding the misaligned bezel in all of their live pics — The bezel in the pics of the watch at Fratello is also misaligned.

https://www.fratellowatches.com/seiko-p ... face/#gref

So, either the photographers at both publications failed to align the bezel, or couldn't, before photographing the watch, or seiko issued stock promotional pics with the bezel defect present.

Pure schlock in any instance.

Not trying to be a dick - I don't have to try - but I don't understand the misalignment concern. Isn't it simply a matter of turning the bezel a bit more? Or does it have clicks like a dive bezel?

All I know is, if there's a Seiko mentioned around here, you gonna hear about misaligned bezels.

You can set your watch by it.

My Alpinist's inner bezel knob turns firmly with no clicks or detents. Unless I'm misunderstanding 3F, the only defect here is the photographers failing to line it up. Perhaps they were given non-working samples.

Photographers from two different publications failing to align the bezels seems to me to be highly unlikely, especially given the knock on Seiko's quality because of the all too common issue. Likewise, it seems to me to be highly unlikely that Seiko would provide non working exemplars that exemplify a quality issue for they are excoriated in watch circles.

While inner rotating bezels don't operate with detents or stops, they do work with gears. My guess is that the best way to make it work would be for the bezel ring to have teeth around its circumference that mesh directly with a gear driven by rotating the bezel's crown. I suppose that a three gear indirect system could also be employed much like the way the third wheel indirectly drives the seconds hand in some automatic movements — the stuttering Miyotas, for example.

Gear mechanics not being my major, I can't say that two or more gears can stop and hold their positions tooth to tooth, without being meshed, that is, thus yielding the infinitely fluid positioning that seems as if should be the case. My guess is that they cannot.

In any case, I suspect, but cannot definitively say, that the pitch and ratio of the teeth is crucial as would be the alignment of the system with the dial to achieve the bezel's ability to precisely align with the markers on the dial.

Anybody major in this stuff or know the specs on how these deals are actually designed?

I think the bezel has sawteeth that slant in the counterclockwise direction; so it can go that way but not back.

here's a pic:

Interesting.

It looks like a pretty big gap between the teeth (tooth space?) to me and that the teeth would not stop and hold their position reliably without meshing, particularly because of the pitch of the teeth. Precise assembly would seem to be required for things to line up proper, much as would be the case with the stops of a traditional dive bezel. But then again--------------
