All-New Seiko King Seiko Collection

Post by koimaster » January 25th 2022, 4:17pm

In late 2020, Seiko announced something very special, at least to people with a little knowledge of the brand’s history and evolution through the decades. While Seiko was founded in 1881 and through the years saw immense prosperity, it has many very interesting chapters in that long history. Today it is one of the biggest watch manufacturers in the world, with a huge collection under various sub-labels or even a separate brand entirely.

The introduction of the King Seiko KSK SJE083 towards the end of 2020 revived the fabled internal rivalry with Grand Seiko. That very watch left us wondering though, would Seiko do more with the King Seiko legacy than just this one-time limited edition? Surely not! So with a resounding “Long live the King,” we formally welcome back the King Seiko collection, with the introduction of 5 new references. And they are non-limited, more compact, more accessible…

The King Seiko Collection Debuts With Incredibly Wearable Watches

Whether we’re talking about Seiko or Grand Seiko, both have been on a weekly tear regarding new releases. Each week, we seem to get something. This week, it’s time for something different, though, with the all-new King Seiko Collection. These watches answer a lot of asks for the purists out there with only a few questions left remaining. Let’s have a look.

We’ve watched Seiko tap into its back catalog with serious regularity over the past four or five years. In general, I’m a fan. Yes, I’d like to continue to see a healthy mix of new designs, but I still enjoy the occasional nod to the past. With today’s new King Seiko Collection, the watches take us back an incredible 57(!!) years, yet the pieces we’ll discuss still look fresh.

I think they look good but I sure don’t see the value.
It's about 2k isn't it? Seems really good value to me, compared to what else is out there e.g. Oris, Tissot, Hamilton...

More like 2.5k (American). By comparison, the new Alpinist is an absolute steal. IMO, of course.

Do you mean the 1959 recreation? Googled it just now after reading your comment, first time I've seen it. Agreed, looks like phenomenal value with the beautiful strap, buckle and box sapphire, and 6L35 inside. Been a long time since I've said "phenomenal vale" and "Seiko" in the same sentence.
