Looks fantastic:

Except it's 2023 and anybody doing anything remotely adventurous has a GPS and a smartphone. Remember when Seiko was innovative and tech-focused? When they produced instruments for professionals? This would have been amazing with a UHD OLED screen, full GPS, and solar. Instead it's just another trinket :-(

It's AUD4,100. I'd pay $1,500, maybe $2k tops.

This a great point.

But I don't want a Seiko smart watch that is like the things Samsung/Apple or Garmin are doing, I want something ground-breaking that is fundamentally Seiko. A professional instrument that is pushing the application of technology in a way others are not. We haven't seen that side of Seiko for a long time.

Tall order for an analog mechanical watch, but perhaps something could be crafted with a tech function module that is solar powered or maybe even spring driven — mechanically charged, now that would be something, by golly.

Should have this style and level of finish. Innovation would be solar-powered extra-bright UHD OLED with sufficient charging power and battery life for a decent trip - say, 7 days. Water-resistant gorilla glass touch screen would be the icing on the innovation cake.

Those are cool watches in their own way but funtionality is very limited by the e-ink tech - not at all practical and not designed for outdoor activities. And no GPS.
