WL Spring Charity Auction 3--Revealed! Auction!

Post by conjurer » February 5th 2017, 3:42pm

Here's something fun and new for our Charity auctions for St. Judes--a reverse auction! What's a reverse auction? you stupid bastards might ask. Well, how it works is I set a price; the first guy who chimes in here on the thread wins, and agrees to pay that price. After a day or so, if nobody buys, the price goes down. And will keep going down to a certain point, when I will do a fantastic, Donald-Trump-like reveal and turn the sumbitch into a regular auction, with high bidder wins. Got it? I typed it real slow, so I hope so.

So, here's the watch:

This is the rare and fine NY-London, ahh, chronograph GMT World tyme something. Three different timezones on the dial--which has never been done before by any company except Vacheron and maybe Invicter. It also has many tyme Knobs, three of which actually work. (Faux tyme Knobs! Think of it!). Stainless steel back, which is nickel safe, although it might not be to your skin--I myself have very little nickel in my skin, but others might. It's either powered by Chinese quartz movements or perhaps very fine and rare Swiss automatic dead-beat movements--I'd guess Chinese quartz, but whatever gets you through your day. One of the Tyme zones doesn't appear to be working--which means it'll be exactly precise twice a day. For size queens, it's a biggun: 55.5mm across, 60mm with unsigned crown, a rather long 65.85mm lug to lug, 20mm thick. Be aware, it wears a bit large:

Comes with box, but no papers. I'm guessing that the manufacturer of these doesn't exactly want a bunch coming in for repairs.

Now, while this is a very fine and rare (possibly a piece unique, in the colorway-bespoke sense) there's also something else included. This something else I will not immediately identify, but let me tell you, on my word of honor (and totally seriously, no more fucking around) that this something has guaranteed return on investment. Granted, a baller or gangsta might grab your wrist when you wear this bad boi to the local Snoop Dogg 'n Suds and offer you plenty of dead presidents for it, but with the included special something, you will be made whole (and then some.)

So, here we go. The price of this fine object d'art (plus the special something) starts, right now, at $900. The first guy who bids gets it. Paypal only, sale is final. The winner will send me 75% of the winning bid, plus $10 for shipping, and the rest goes to the forum via the "donate" button at the top right of each page (this is fun and easy.) The 75% goes to the St Judes Children's hospital. This auction is, at this point, open-ended; if nobody bites, then at a certain point I will pause the auction, reveal what the special something is, and turn it into a standard WL auction, with a set finish tyme--err, time. Each day I will lower the price, again the first guy who posts who wants it wins. This auction is open only to CONUS members, no foreign bids, sorry.

So, there you go. The first guy who wants it, gets it. Nine hundred bucks. And... Go!

Is the other thing a Seiko?

I said it was "a guaranteed return on investment", which leaves out any Seiko I've ever heard of.

I say open this sucker up for traditional auction. It would appear that the Lords are not keen on reverse auction? Neat idea; but, ever since I paid $0.50 for a grab bag at a fair as a kid only to find $0.03 worth of product inside, I can't get into it.

So, you guys are ready for me to open things up for a regular auction? What say fellow Lords?

It appears as though no one is going to bid blind. Keeping in mind your valuation of the "surprise item" and the charity to which the proceeds are dedicated, only you, conjuror, can determine the appropriate point to declare this a regular auction. Wouldn't want to see a truly high value piece go for bupkis.
