Polywatch, my new crack

Post by smellody » July 13th 2023, 9:14pm

So, to date, I've used a bit of toothpaste to polish my acrylic crystals. Generally, I'll buy watches and get them serviced or they've been recently serviced.

My recent Tudor Submariner 7928 provided the opportune situation to order some Polywatch.

Note the 7928's scratched crystal.

I ordered two tubes of Polywatch with a cotton. Dremel bit off a popular auction site for about $10.

I used a little squirt on the crystal and worked it with pressure while supporting the case with my other hand.

I probably applied the product and rubbed it out (don't get too excited Conjurer) eight times.

The finished, to me, product. There are still some deep gouges, but the superficial scratches are gone. Dramatic improvement!

I can't wait to try it on a few other crystals!

What an improvement, it's the Cape Cod cloth for crystals, of the relatively soft acrylic variety. Does anyone know if it works on the harder stuff?
See you're WRONG I don't work at all, I'm a Democrat. The immortal Horse Feathers as spoken to Chucky Ninetoes.

Did You remove the bezel? I do agree these products do work well.
I didn't, but probably should have. I removed the bezel on my 1680 probably 30 years ago and for whatever reason decided I wouldn't do that again.

This particular bezel needs the retaining spring tensioned. The entire bezel currently spins freely. I'll ask my watchmaker to give it a quick buff while the bezel is off when I take it in to have the spring tensioned.

I’ve tried it on mineral and didn’t make a dent.
There are Diamond polishes out there for mineral crystals (not tried them myself), more expensive than polywatch but cheap enough to have a go. Cheaper than having a new crystal fitted anyway, and it's always fun to 'have a go'.
