Year in Review 2022. . .what did you get? What does 2023 hold?

Post by smellody » December 21st 2022, 11:54pm

This was the first. I started paying on it in 2021 and picked it up in early 2022.

My last purchase of 2022:

I think there were a couple of other vintage also.

Not really sure what 2023 will bring. I'm a bit of an opportunist. If a deal pops up that I can't refuse. . .

I still want:

.925 Tudor
9ct Omega

How about you all?

I guess there is a 10 picture limit, I got a Mau Chinese watch and the Tissot I just posted about too.
I guess I got 12 watches this year, a few were on my list so it was nice to accomplish something instead of spinning my wheels. I would like to concentrate more on my list this year, some have been on my list for a few years and it seems that I am in a place that there is no other direction to go in.

Here are some on my list that I will concentrate on this year. Finding them on bracelet, in awesome shape and at a good price is tough, I usually see two out of three so I pass or I don’t see them until it’s too late.

This year is the vintage Explorer II that I’m waiting for the evaluation on mine for trade. Did buy a couple but they weee confiscated by my two boys. Next year probably all is a Mido and finally try to sell off a bunch and remake my collection.

I was out of the life for several years then had the opportunity to reengage.

I found that I’ve scratched my high end itch, for now anyhow, sold it all off, and have reverted to low and midrange which was my original longstanding interest

Some of these I’m going to flip but here’s what’s been corraled this year

Far too many GMTs. Viz:

A purdy wartche, but terrible timekeeping.

Juan non GMT:

In the words of foghorn at Crunch: Two tone and Roman numerals? How old are you??

Image

The fuck is this?? If this was a great timekeeper, then the term "gheyist wartche since the Red Sea Six Pounder" wouldn't have mattered. Alas, it isn't a great timekeeper.

Image

Here's a great timekeeper. I'm not really sure if I bought this one in late 2021 or early 2022--Imgur says 12 months ago, so what the fuck. With a Tooter based caliber that's about one second fast a day, and cool looks, and Sew fourth, as well as the fact that, well, you can walk into an AD and actually walk out with the fucking thing without sucking the ADs dick or waiting a year and a half on a fucking waitlist, well, that makes it a winner in our book.

Why would you pay three times as much for a GMT-Master, grab your ankles. and let your local AD slip his schlong into your ass? I think not.

Absolute debacle as far as buying watches. Dan Henry doesn't want to replace a watch that doesn't keep time. They suggested perhaps the battery is flat. On a brand new watch. Having tested the perfect battery, they've agreed I can return it. At my expense. I'll be sending it back next week as I will have some spare time for the first time in a long while - way to spend my holiday!

Having received the incorrect Faberge from Jomashop, I spent about a month or two trying to convince them that the watch I received was not the watch I paid for. Then a month or two explaining that, no, I don't want a partial refund on the watch I received, I want the watch I paid for. Then a month or two - who's counting by this stage? - of them claiming not to have the watch I paid for, with me countering with why's it on your site and why are you emailing me ads telling me to buy that watch? Then a month or so after they find the watch I paid for, sending me emails with UPS return-paid details, but not the actual consignment note. I received the consignment note yesterday, just in time for the Christmas break, and UPS are picking it up 28/12.

Should have just got a new kitchen (except I can't get anybody to build anything this side of 2024). Bah and humbug.

Congrats on the new watch Recliner!

Jura messed with me last year, I never did get the watch and it took a month and a half to get my money back.

Didn't buy any watches last year. That does not mean I am not looking though. It will be interesting to see what 2023 looks like as far as watches are concerned. Next March will mark five years since I quit working. Can't say I retired at the time as the plan was to take a year off and reevaluate. Working a horrendous schedule can do that to you. Within the first year I decided that I liked the every day is Saturday plan. Having sold a rental house I owned, it was apparent that there was enough money in the bank to forego the working world in perpetuity. So now, after five years of living on a small pension (started at 55) and mostly savings, coming of age in 2023 opens up two more revenue streams for me. May or may not go nuts in 2023. As a man who values assets that help you sleep at night, seeing your savings dwindle slowly over the last five years does not go unnoticed. That said, I also recognize that the Polar white dialed Explorer II, (16570) that I have long coveted has gone from 5 to 9k or higher in the last few years. So who wins, the perpetual cheapskate or the guy with suddenly more disposable income? Only time will tell.

The Exploder will come down in price. These secondary market prices are fucking insane.
