So how much are you willing to spend on a watch or how much can you spend on a watch without getting told to sleep on the couch. 993kg%

I picked 3k but I've never spent more than $1200. Could pay whatever, but I'm cheap which helps one retire at 54. Living off savings until 60, then I'll go nuts. At least that's what I tell myself.

Thought about it a bit. I want to do some work on my home. And I want to get another house, maybe a holiday-type air bnb. So any unnecessary purchases shouldn't represent a significant proportion of a home deposit. But it's hard just saving and saving, you gotta treat yourself every now and then. I set a US$2,000 limit on my searches, but I reckon even that would feel like too much currently. And I'm really happy with my current watches, not really craving anything other than The Citizen. The Citizen is out of reach for now, I'd probably like to spend under AU$1,000 if I was going to get something. Probably try to find a Garmin Fenix. I also need a car. And a holiday. And I'd rather spend money on Will and Sarah. Maybe even AU$500 on a watch would be too much!

That's, like, twelve bucks US, you bogan!!
Well, yeah, but it's all relative. You could probably buy a house over here for the same price as one of your fancy wagyu steaks :-(

3K and below. I can't imagine spending more than that.
Meritocracy: the privilege, wealth and advancement of those who chose their parents wisely.
Capitalism: a cult that promised to do good for the worst reasons.
Nationalism: a profound longing to go back to a past that never existed.

And I can’t see myself spending over $20k on a watch so that was how I voted

Yes, yes! Very funny old chap! My good friend Squimpy has a couple of waterfront properties on Kangaroo Island and obviously I had intended to add one to my portfolio. But life, and calculative women, get in the way, don't they?

So this one will probably be in the South West. You're all invited, of course, as long as you or your employer can cover the per diem.

I voted for 3,000 or less since there wasnt a 2,000 option. Maybe if I wore a suit and went to work every day like I used to Id feel differently.

At one time I really wanted a Rolex President and wish Id bought one then at about 10K. Turned down a Sub at 1,800. at the same time too. Probably would have been afraid to wear the President even then and it factored in making my decision.

C'mon Alain, you posited the question. What about you?
I did post it. I can afford to spend what I want on a watch but I would have to think long and hard before spending 5k on a watch.

Worthy of more than 5K. Not mine yet, still thinking after seeing the Zenith once again that cod has. Just hard to justify the money when it could be in my 401k.

Since I've never held or seen a Rolex up close, I can't imagine it being X number of times better than say a Sinn or Longines.
Oh, it is.

I ask myself: Do I want another motorcycle or another watch? They cost about the same since I've abandoned mid-priced brands.
These days motorcycles seem to win - and, oddly, I've only been buying Rolex, despite the vomit-inducing prices.
JBHII would be proud, though I hope I have not become an elitist jerk. Always been a jerk, though.
