What do snobs and haters really wear?

Post by koimaster » October 8th 2012, 2:26pm

I have more emails from people about how members of this forum and others which are not Invicta or (insert tv brand here) are watch snobs. We are supposed to look down our noses at any sub $500 brand anon.

On that note, what do we wear normally as our daily watches? Several of us post in the WURW thread and I see brands worth less than $100 to those over $10k at times. I prefer a nice three hand with a Swiss automatic or manual movement.

I enjoy wearing G-Shocks and Timexes as much as wearing my Omegas.

I would not enjoy wearing a poorly made, misrepresented, garish, poorly designed, shilled on TV by marketers with little knowledge of watches, with a dubious provenance and shady manufacturing history,no QC,no CS, POS no matter who made it.

I am not a watch snob,but I am a shit snob.

Seriously?? If you are that butt-hurt about what people think about your watches to write a complaint to a forum admin, then it simply validates the fact your watches suck.

If it's an honest watch with character I'll wear it. Most days I wear something relatively affordable, under $500, because I ride a bike, go to the gym, cook, etc. I don't want to sully a flash watch unnecessarily. And I prefer Japanese watches most days, or at least watches with japanese movements.

To me it's as simple as the statement: his watch speaks a lot about the man.

Wearing anything paddled by felon and wannabe Master Watch Maker speaks a lot about the person, to me.

I wear mostly name brands; Seiko, Citizen, Hamilton and couple a little more pricey ones like my Junghan. After been here for a while I beginning to appreciate Orient and couple brands I never even knew. But at least I know they are from known source. Heck, I really want to own a real Seagull; not those from Wing's!!

I guess they can call me a snob too.

I do firefighting and search and rescue, I like lume, three hands and toughness. My watch can go through hell on an average day. When I'm at work, I wear Deep Blue or Reactor. Which ever one I wear, I have the other brand as a back up. I can count on them.

Off of work, depending on the situation, I prefer Seiko, Philip, Burett, Accutron, Zodiac, TX etc... I have a small assortment of vintage watches also. My watches are not expensive, they are tasteful and of decent quality.

You should see the crap at FB about haters and snobs. There are many many brands under $500 which put value pay queens to shame yet some still call a Seiko owner a hater. Absolute rubbish.

I wear what I want; whatever has a purpose for the day. If I am going to the vintage race I wear a chronograph to measure laps. If I am going swimming I wear a swiss automatic that is under warranty.

I'm not a hater, but I don't have time for most of the TV brands or Japanese watches. Am I snob? Don't care. Wouldn't waste my time driving a Honda or Kia, if I died tomorrow I'd want to have a Swiss watch on my wrist. Quartz watches also do not make sense to me. I have a phone with the time on it.

Today I wore my Rolex 1680. I felt and looked just like James Bond if he was a fat adminstrative scientist who wore a sweater vest.

I have yet to pay more than $1100 for any watch-ever. Can't say I lose any sleep worrying about what anyone thinks of my watches. There is definitely a place for the cheap beater in my "collection" though some would ascribe that moniker to my entire collection. Why just today I wore my $68 Invicta 8926 to replace the pipe between my septic tank and distribution box. I can't stand the felons, con men and shysters who sell TV watches, but it seems silly to hate all of the watches themselves.

The "snob" tag is a deliberate part of the mental games played on those forums and the TV shills. They have their "family" of internet friends whom they believe have collectively discovered something better and cheaper then the rest of us. As an example, how often have you heard them explain that advertising and celebrity endorsements are the primary reasons for the cost of a high end watch. In their minds they think that we know an Invicta is just as good as a Rolex but we wont wear the Invicta because its sold on TV.

This plays very well for them until the person wakes up, but by them their spots are replaced by the next generation. Until then the loudest voices are those who most likely know better but are in denial and have many of the >$600 Invictas

I haven't anything really pricey in my collection and probably won't ever. 'Swiss' doesn't impress me in any way. Over time my collection is increasingly Japanese with some German content and several micros.

The watch I am wearing and enjoying a lot at the moment is a $50 Timex Expedition.

I have no problem wearing the same watch for weeks. My collection is somewhat small. I own more Citizen then any other brand. I do have my eye on the Porsche Design P'6620 although at $6k its gonna be a longggggggggggggg time before I get it.

My three main wearers are the TAG Aquaracer, the 007, and the Casio Edifice.

how often have you heard them explain that advertising and celebrity endorsements are the primary reasons for the cost of a high end watch.

If advertising had that much effect on prices, Bud Light would be $500 a bottle.
