I responded to a thread here last year regarding an Orient Star diver, and mentioned I had been watching this one (known as the "Revolver") on eBay for months. It's still available, and two weeks ago, I contacted the seller asking him his bottom line price. He sent me an offer for $999 plus the $20 shipping charge. I received a notice from eBay that others had received the same offer. I did not respond. It's still FOR SALE, and has been for probably 6-9 months. I believe he started off asking $1,499, now $1,179, but will take $999.

Do I need it? No. Would I like to have it? Obviously, yes. These were about $500 when new if I recall.

What would be a fair offer, given that Ebay will probably charge sales tax (9.5% in Tennessee), which to me is a 10% buyer's premium?

The Revolver is a fantastic watch; apart from the OS300, it was the best diver that Orient ever made. It's something of a grail for guys who love Japanese watches, but it's not worth a grand.

Too many blue dials already.

Too expensive. The blue and yellow ones go for more but even still the eBay one looks pricey

I’ve never been interested in the model but they are certainly not unusual on Japanese sites

My thought is that these have historically been 500-700 on secondary market in Japan and actually not an especially popular model in Japan at least.

These have typically been priced beneath OS300, which pulls 800 to 1200 or so on Japan secondary markets

Qualify this with collector interest may be increasing with passage of time, again it’s a model in which Ive not had a focused interest.

If you start rooting around Japanese sites my thought is you could find one cheaper but time is money too and while they aren’t especially rare they don’t grow on trees anymore so you might spend a month or two monitoring sites before one pops up that you like.

I am sick of scabs trying to make money by producing nothing, adding no value, just ripping off enthusiasts. They've mostly ruined the enjoyment of watches. Tell him to get fucked. Enough is enough.

I know it’s not the color or bracelet you want, but the auction closed with no bidders despite unused condition at ~500 USD.

That is good data on price point . The one on eBay is grossly overpriced by comparison.

If it were me, and I do this often, I'd make an offer of $400. Depending on the sellers parameters the offer will automatically be refused or sent to them. If sent to them, you could potentially engage in a back and fourth. My office is filled with pate de verre that sellers thought they would get high retail auction prices out of me. I was just patient. Often after my offers they refused they will eventually lower the price. . . .then I make a lower offer. I usually get what I want. Eventually.
