If you can see the difference which looks better?

Postby tiktok » June 17th 2017, 2:54pm

I've been having a hankering for a Nav b-Uhr for sometime. I owned a GO version years ago but don't want to drop $4k for this style of watch. Here's two versions from very highly thought of brands. Don't know if you can tell any differences, the first is 40mm with modded ETA, second is 42mm with similar movement. I don't know if these are photos or renderings but if one looks better than the other let me know and why. Thanks
A.

I like the onion crown better on this style of watch.

Only difference I can see is the crown...are the cases both the same size, both SS?..

Both stainless, A is 40mm and B is 42mm. They also come in 36 for brand A.

Like B...crown is a better match, you are thinking of Laco?

Perhaps, the last time I looked at Laco they were hanging by the skin of their teeth but seem to have restructured and doing well.

Like the transition from case to lugs better on A. Seems a bit smoother. Crown on B looks better though.

B. Based on the pictures, B looks clearer and I like the crown.
Perhaps A is just a bad stock photo, but I still like the crown on B.

So A is Stowa, B is as eddiea stated, Laco. The 36 mm Stowas are cute as hell. I've got my eye on a Breguet Type XX and just wanted something to fill the b-Uhr niche.

A 36mm sounds great. I would probably go with that and ignore the onion crown.

I'd say: go with the Stowa. Dunno how about the movement in the Laco, but the 2824 in the Stowa is the "Top" grade, I believe. And the case finishing appears to be slightly nicer than in the Laco fliegers, but that's just my entirely subjective assessment of both watches.

The onion crown on B seals it for me.

I like the Laco better, that been said I'm partial to the brand, hands on my Laco NJG (42mm) uses an ETA 2824 that is adjusted to COSC specs (unsure about the grade of the movement) fit and finishes easily matches the one found in my LE Stowa Seatime (no longer in my collection) adding that when it comes to homage Pilot watches, the closer to the original the better and these watches were pretty big ....

The Laco is elabore grade as is the Stowa. The wartime versions were like 55mm.

I was thinking on adding a Dortmund Erbstuck to my collection a while back....

"ETA 2824-2, top version with blued screws"

Could of course be marketing talk, but that's how the Stowa site describes it.

As to Laco, guess one can't go wrong with their watches either.

They look the same to me. Stowa by a mile--they could use a crown that looks like a booger and I'd still pick Stowa.

The watch is grand. The logo brings to mind a Fliegerkorps unit flash. I can't come to like it. I'm trying I'm trying real hard, no.
