Hands-On: The Bell & Ross BR V1-92

Postby Racer-X » June 16th 2017, 7:29pm

by Cara Barrett "I have said it before and I'll say it again – vintage-inspired watches were big this year at SIHH and Baselworld. First there was Jaeger-LeCoultre, then Omega, then Oris, and now Bell & Ross. Despite this trend being relatively new to the market, for Bell & Ross this is old news. This year at Baselworld, Bell & Ross released the third installment of vintage-inspired watches that they have produced since 1997, shortly after their founding in 1992. While other manufactures threw back to original mid-century designs and faux patina, Bell & Ross produced a fresh line of chronographs and three-hand watches, like the BR V1-92."

Not square? No skulls? No sombreros? Only 38.5mm?

B&R has truly jumped the shark with this one.

B&R 126 from around Y2K. Lemania inside. Runs great since my watchmaker adjusted the timing.

Normally, B&R watches are unutterably ghey--particularly their Sckull wartchs, supposedly picked by Special Forces, assuming they're shooting something other than their seed into some hapless bear's boo-tay. This ghey-osity has trickled down--pardon the pun--into most of the rest of their models.

Some of the B&Rs are not ghey, like ticker's, or the one in the OP. For some reason, I like it; it's overpriced, to be sure, but if it wasn't overpriced, it wouldn't be B&R.

In the interim before the crystal ball department can project what the next fad seller will be they can revert back to traditional plain vanilla offerings. As a plus the revisit is always assured some degree of success.
