The Other Moon Watch—Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph

The Other Moon Watch—Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph

Postby koimaster » December 5th 2017, 9:01pm

The historical Bulova “Moon Watch” has a long and fascinating, albeit a somewhat convoluted, history. The watch was made for Astronaut David Scott, who wore it on the Apollo 15 mission. His watch surfaced in 2015, and later that year it was sold for a whopping $1,300,000 at auction. Last year, Worn & Wound contributor Hung Doan did a deep dive into the watch. I won’t spoil what he discovered here; I’ll just say that his research took quite a few interesting twists and turns along the way (seriously, if you haven’t read it yet, do it now and come back to this review. It was one of my favorite stories of 2016).

It may have a "High Performance Quartz" movement, but I'm not shelling out $595 USD for a quartz movement, high performance or otherwise... :???:

Nice looking watch except for the design flaw.

I was hoping this was about the now defunct "Eagle Pilot" Accutron from some years ago. The Buzz Aldrin Apollo 11 model. Another one of my nevashoodasold watches.

What all-mechanical are you going to get for $595 list price? Apart from one that isn't shit I mean? :D

TBF that is about the same price as a Strela, which also has spacey credentials and is fitted with a steam tractor engine from 1948. Actually it's potentially not shit as the tractor is actually a 1948 Venus 188, albeit with some extra jewels thrown in and a higher beat. But it's made of Russian pig iron, the factory that made them went bust (how can you tell? I hear you ask) and I can't see Citizen jamming that ancient old Soviet doom into a watch with an American brand on the dial...

I don't mind this one with a black case, but I as well would love to see that dial on the basic steel version.

Spacey credentials aren't the best credentials these days...

Umm, no. No date, 52mm lug-to-lug, black IP, all deal-killers for me.

Honestly, Bullie hit the ball out of the park with the original Moon Watch. This is a sophie Moone wartche. A bridge too far. They should have stopped when they were ahead.
