Memories won. Good intentions lost.

Having paid a year's worth of green dues with the Volt it was time to add another vehicle. The Volt's unpleasant manner when running on gas for long distances and the addition of a spouse conspired to demand a gasoline powered something or other (as a Tesla S is too damn much). The used market was a given as I'm a cheap bastage and I thought this would be a grand time to grab a nicely depreciated C6 or something along the lines of a newer Camaro SS or Mustang GT.

But damn if the pleasant memories of a misspent youth didn't find something partially resembling a classic British Roadster calling my name. Strangely it was doing so in a German accent.

And it was unapologetically impractical and comparatively underpowered. It was also low mileage, seemingly meticulously maintained and priced at right around what a restored MG-B or TR-6 would run and possibly a dime more than a Spridgit. And a warranty for another 60-60 wasn't too bad albeit higher than anything that didn't have 400 moving parts associated with a top that performed an impossibly choreographed mechanical dance that would gladden the heart of anyone that appreciates a mechanical movement. It's relegated to the outside as the Volt's charger is in the small-ish garage.

Anyway... the alleged car:

As jaw would say....... Hiyoooo!

Gorgeous car Hawk!

Z4 ??

I am a fan of German cars and our two door Bavarian Motor Works 640i is a absolute dream to drive.

On a side note- the lady in your pictures looks vaguely familiar.

On the side note - she's received her notice to have fingerprints taken in Tampa in a couple weeks. What an ordeal. K-1 Visa was started in November 2016 and issued September '17. Green card is still in process but the fingerprint deal suggests it's near an end.

The "tightening up" of immigration guidelines has left some Catch-22s in their wake. Thus far my favorite is the USCIS wanting to see a joint checking account while DHS has told the banks no accounts can be opened for a foreign national without a green card.

Insurance is an even bigger mess. No individual health insurance is available on the open market in Florida. None. Nada. Not at any price. No way. No how. Right now the plan is to fly her to Thailand if something comes up that doesn't prevent travel. If it's an emergency then the house and car are forfeit.

Ha! I would but it'd be a group of one which they find distressing. Similar problem with ACA - I can't sign up and then add a spouse because I qualify for Medicare. She can't go it alone because of being a non-citizen.

Speaking as one on the finance end of healthcare, if is an emergency, the facility has to treat and cannot even ask if she has insurance until her condition is stabilized. She doesn’t have to give a correct street address nor do you have to provide it.

They can’t make her pay. We see it everyday. Don’t let lack of insurworry you for now.

And if she were to need an MD visit, many docs will provide a cash discount, provide med samples for free and most chain pharmacies will actually fill antibiotics for free. The only Rx she would need an ID for would be controlled substances.

And the phone app “GoodRx” provides great cash discounts.
